ENTRANCE EXAMS

Acting Department of the Drama School of the National Theatre
Ι. First stage
Candidates are invited to prepare and present:
- a monologue from the classical repertoire (from antiquity to the 18th century). Indicatively: ancient drama, Cretan Renaissance theatre, Elizabethan theatre, classical Spanish theatre, French classicism, German romanticism)
- a monologue from the contemporary Greek or foreign repertoire (from 19th century to the present day)
- a poem
- a song
They may also be asked to improvise on topics suggested to them during the examination.
ΙΙ.Second stage
Shortlisted candidates will be asked to present:
- a monologue from ancient drama (tragedy or comedy) of their choice
- a text, which will be given one day prior to the exam
- a poem
- a song
- an improvisation on a theme that will be set during the examination
They will also participate in group workshops, the attendance of which is mandatory.
The second stage also includes a written examination, which will require the development of a topic combining personal opinion and critical thinking with prerequisite elementary knowledge of the history of theatre and literature.

The candidates declare their participation online by filling in the relevant application through the website of the Drama School of the National Theatre within the specified date.
In addition, when attending the examinations, they must necessarily present:
- copy of high school diploma
- copy of birth certificate or copy of identity card
- one (1) photograph (small size – for ID)
When attending on the day of the examination, candidates must carry their identity card or the identification document they have stated in their application.
The study period at the School lasts three years and is compulsory.

Directing Department, Drama School of the National Theatre
The entrance examinations for the Directing Department of the Drama School of the National Theatre take place in September and are held in two stages.
Ι. First stage
Candidates are invited:
- to direct themselves and present a theatrical monologue of their choice
- to recite a poem
- They will also be asked to improvise on topics that will be suggested during the exam.
ΙΙ. Second stage
The shortlisted candidates will be invited:
- to participate in group workshops, the attendance of which is mandatory.
- to prepare a short directional improvisation in collaboration with the second-year students of the Acting Department on a topic to be determined by the examination committee.
- to submit an envelope with a proposal which will include a description of the aesthetic approach (acting, space, visual material, music selection, etc.).
- to take part in a written examination in which they will be asked to develop a topic combining personal opinion and critical thinking with prerequisite elementary knowledge of the history of theatre and literature as well as the study of the proposed material./li>
Final individual exam
Interview with the examination committee based on submitted papers. A new topic for improvisation may also be given.
